RGFP Develops Ultrastrong, Water-Resistant Self-Healing Polymer

Researchers at RGFP have pioneered a novel dynamic covalent chemistry by integrating sNCB linkages, which combine imine bonds and boronic ester bonds. The resulting material, PETX, achieves exceptional tensile strength (~102 MPa) while maintaining moisture resistance and reprocessability. PETX also demonstrates self-healing capabilities and structural health monitoring functions, making it a sustainable solution for high-performance materials.

The findings were published in Macromolecules in a paper titled Humidity-Tolerant Thermoset Based on Dynamic Covalent Bond Integration Strategy via Boron-Nitrogen Bidentate Coordination (https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.macromol.4c02613). The first authors are Wuzhuang Wei and Xiaoqting Zhang.
