Dr Deng Shihai graduated from Beijing Jiaotong University with B.Eng. in 2012. He completed his PhD in 2017 at Beijing Jiaotong University under the supervision of Prof Li Desheng. After graduation, he jointed Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow during 2018-2021 under the supervision of Prof Hu Jiangyong and Prof Ong Say Leong. From Nov 2021 onwards, he worked in Xi’an Jiaotong University as a Research Professor under the Young Talent Tier Support Plan, specializing in the field of wastewater treatment and environmental functional materials.
Under the global circumstance of carbon emission reduction, Dr Deng focuses his research on the R&D of advanced materials and technologies for cost-effective and resource-productive water/wastewater treatment. He has made achievements in the R&D of catalysts for AOPs (e.g., ozonation and Fenton) and materials for advanced biological treatment processes (e.g., MBR, A2O, BAF and CWs). Parts of the catalysts and materials and the advanced processes he developed has been applied to the low C/N wastewater treatment, water body remediation and industrial wastewater reclamation.
Dr Deng has published more than 60 academic papers in international journals, including 25 first/corresponding author papers (15 of them were published in the JCR Q1 or top journals like Water Research). He also published 3 books and filed 7 Chinese patents of invention. Dr Deng has made 5 invited oral presentations at international conferences/symposiums with 3 times of keynote speech or session chair. He is currently serving as associate editor, guest editor or reviewers for a number of journals as well as funding agencies.
