Abstracts: The flow phenomena of measured area in the branch of a T-junction duct with horizontal or vertical vanes are experimentally investigated in a low-speed wind tunnel by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The measuring position was set at the vanes outlet, 1.07D away from branch entrance. Velocity and vorticity field and velocity distributions at different positions (x=0.26D, 0.35D, 0.72D, 1.08D and 1.22D) are obtained under the cross velocity (uc) and velocity ratio (R) ranging from 30 -50 m/s and 0.08-0.18, respectively. The detailed results show that, velocity separation phenomenon can be obviously seen regardless of the vane direction. That is to say the positive high speed flows, vortexes ,recirculation zone, and the maximum velocity occurs near the down side while the negative flows occur near the upper side. The positive high speed region enlarges to half of the test region when the vanes direction is vertical, while the vorticity distributions are more concentrated when the vanes direction is horizontal. The flow structures obtained from streamline and velocity profiles reveal that the velocity distributions in the branch of T-junction duct with vertical vanes are more uniform and stable than those with horizontal vanes.
