Summary:
A novel method is developed to assemble ZnO nanowire arrays via a simple combing process with a Chinese paintbrush. The assembly theory is introduced at first. Then, a device is fabricated with the assembled ZnO nanowire arrays. At last, I-V characteristic, ultraviolet characteristic and gas sensitivity characteristic of the device have been tested. The gas testing results show that the current of the device shows a five-fold increase when the concentration of NH3 increases from 0 to 7500ppm and that the sensitivity of the device to NH3 is almost two times as that of sensor fabricated with auto-assembly ZnO nanowire. Such simple method is possible to assemble almost all one-dimensional nano-materials for gas sensor fabrication. Furthermore, the density of assembled nanowire can be controlled by adjusting density of nanowire suspension, which means that mass production is possible.
