- In the numerical manifold method, mathematical covers are independent of the physical features, and therefore regular mathematical elements are preferred in building a mathematical cover system. In this paper, rectangular, right-angled triangular and equilateral triangular elements are respectively used as the basic unit of mathematical covers in the two dimensional setting to study their difference in accuracy. Through two numerical experiments, the three typical regular elements are compared in detail. The results show that of them the rectangular element is the best, and the equilateral triangular element is apparently better than the right-angled triangular element for discontinuous problems, but almost identical for continuous problems.
