  • Summary:

The acoustic propagation from a mono-frequency
coherent line source above a homogeneous rigid plane
can be solved through analytic approach. However, it
seems difficult for conventional mapped infinite
elements (e.g. Astley element) to obtain the satisfactory
result for such a problem because the requirement that
all the infinite elements must pass through the source
cannot be satisfied. In this article, a generalized mapped
infinite element recently proposed by current authors is
applied to this problem. Due to the generalization of the
decay size measured in infinite direction and the slight
modification to the inappropriate terms in phase factor
and weighting factor, the results of the numerical
experiments of the previous propagation problem are
shown and compared with conventional infinite elements
under identical conditions (e.g. same mesh resolution
and same element order), the new infinite element can
obviously give better results even for a high wave
number. The extension of present work implies that this
infinite element is robust when it is used for solving
problems with multi-sources and complex geometries in
combination with finite element method in near field.
