Magnetic field characteristics of vacuum interrupter with cup type axial magnetic field (AMF) contacts whereaniron ringis introducedareinvestigated by three dimensions finite element method. The results showthat 1) Axial magnetic flux density at currentpeak increases greatly oniron area, while it decreases slightly oncenter area.Withincrease ofgap distance, AMFkeeps unchangedonnon-iron area,whileit decreasesgreatly oniron area. 2) Axial magnetic flux density at currentzero increases greatly on iron area. With increase of gap distance, it decreases greatly. Influence ofirons on AMF only takes placeoniron area. 3) Phaseshift time between AMFand source current becomes higher all over the contactarea including ironareaandnon-ironarea.
