We investigated displacem ent characterist ics of movi ng contact in opening and closing operation and how it is influenced by design of the spring type operating m echanism . Dynamics m odelsw ere set up todemonstratethe relationship bet w een displacem ent charact erist ics including initial opening speed, average openi ng speed, average closing speed and desi gn param eters of operating m echanism includingcontact spring, over-travel, opening spring, cam and dam per etc. Our simulation resul ts show that the initial velocity increased significantlyas over-travel and preloadof contact spri ng increased. The dam per and the cam can be desi gned to get asuitabledisplacem ent characterist ic of m ovable contact.
