Title of Paper:
Path generation strategy for MDOF 3D printing integrated with CAD/CAM system
Journal:
CAD (Under review)
Summary:
Staircase effect and anisotropy are main drawbacks for the 3D printed components, which limited their surface quality and mechanical properties for its potential industrial applications. A 3D printing strategy with multi-degree of freedom (MDOF)  is proposed to overcome these drawbacks. The MDOF 3D printing system combining an industrial robot and 3D printing is established, and the spatial path generation method based on conventional CAM is proposed. The error analysis models of MDOF 3D printing are established, which demonstrates that the MDOF 3D printing can greatly improve the surface quality of the parts. Mechanical properties of fabricated components are studied experimentally. Results show that bearing capacity and stiffness of parts are obvious improved. In the case of the shell part in this paper, the cusp height is reduced by about 685 times, the failure load is increased by about 0.75[1.25times?] times, and the structure stiffness is increased by about 0.32 []times than the conventional 3D printing. The proposed MDOF 3D printing can be used in the fabrication of the high precision and high strength parts, especially with a shell structure.
