The control and manipulation of magnetization via electric approach is one of the main processes for spintronic devices. Recent years have witnessed effective tuning capabilities by magnetic layer stacking mismatch, which adds an additional degree of freedom that is still in its infancy stage. We recently performed a simple yet interesting calculation on current induced spin and orbital moment variations in bilayer CrI3 monolayers. The sliding between them would give contrasting magetoelectric multipole generations, depending on the specific monopole, dipole, and quadrupole responses. This work also implicates the importance of orbitronics over/comparable to spintronics, under strong spin orbit coupling.
