The development and applications of flexible materials largely depends on the wrinkles of thin films, which may significantly affect their physical and chemical properties. On the contrary, inducing wrinkles/ripples in 2D materials usually is based on mechanical or thermal approaches, while optical triggering ripples has been eye-catching during recent years. Nonetheless, theoretical mechanisms on photoinduced rippling remain largely under-explored, so that a fundamental understanding is strongly required. In order to provide a possible explanation, we collabrate with Prof. Mao (PKU) and Prof. Zhang (USTC) to form a basic theory on light-rippling coupling, which is based on both quantum mechanical approaches and continuum mechanical model. By performing constrained-DFT calculations, we illustrate such an effect in 2D hexagonal nitride sheets, and disclose scaling relationship between energy flux and rippling shape.
