- Summary:
- Heat exchangers are widely used in heat recovery devices. To evaluate the performance, reliable evaluation data are necessary and important. In the present paper, a “virtual entropy generation” method is developed to control the quality of heat exchanger measurement. Different from the real entropy generation caused by the process irreversibility, virtual entropy generation is defined as difference between the total measured entropy generation and the real entropy generation, which is caused by measurement error and uncertainties. In result
parts, the existence of virtual entropy generation are illustrated by two forms: the error form and the uncertainty form. Applications and corresponding techniques are developed, 1) to derive a second-law obeying measurement error criterion and, 2) to regulate the measurement uncertainties with four kinds of calibration techniques. Finally, these definitions and virtual entropy generation method are made clear by existing experiment results. Our new framework of analysis can help to obtain a more reasonable measurement criterion for energy system measurement, demonstrating clear physical meaning and a promising way to improve experiment reliability.
